PhD Candidate
Smita comes from a background of agricultural extension education and completed her master’s degree under the International Master of Science in Rural Development (IMRD) program at Ghent University, Belgium. Her passion centres on contributing to the sustainability of our current agri-food systems. Through her research career, she is learning the aspects of ensuring a just transition of the agri-food systems towards sustainability and resilience and working with the attributes influencing global citizens towards a healthier and sustainable lifestyle. She has experience working on the field level with marginal community and smallholder farmers for the assessment of attributes that influence the adoption of green technologies and local initiatives to develop community resilience and adaptive capacity. Smita is currently working on her doctoral thesis focused on the prevalence of obesity and the impact of consumers’ food purchase behaviour on their health and well-being.
