  • On Friday, March 22, Amèlia Sarroca will attend a session to present actions that improve food environments in vulnerable neighbourhoods.
  • The FoodCLIC project, coordinated by the AMB and the IrsiCaixa Health Living Lab, aims to find solutions to guarantee a healthy, sustainable and fair diet for everyone.

March 20, 2024

The technician in nutrition at the Centre for Agro-Food Economics and Development, Amèlia Sarroca, will participate in a new workshop on the co-creation of interventions within the framework of the European FoodCLICproject.

Sarroca will attend on behalf of the Catalan research centre and will focus on activities around healthy and sustainable food and food sovereignty. Thus, the technique will put into practice the link between the agri-food sector and the behaviour of consumers that is investigated at CREDA.

The session will take place next Friday, March 22 at 9:45 a.m. at the Pati Llimona Civic Centre in Barcelona and will aim to present actions that can improve the food environments of neighbourhoods with populations in vulnerable situations. During the event, collaboration between registered people will be encouraged to co-design interventions based on the results obtained in the planning workshops last February.

Of all the ideas presented, 4 will be selected based on: (1) economic viability, (2) the experience and diversity of the team, and (3) the political interest of the administration. The chosen interventions may be financed with FoodCLIC resources.

Each intervention must meet the criteria established by the project:

  1. Connect and generate a positive impact within two years in at least two food environments: (1) peri-urban production; (2) infrastructure for food communities; (3) shops, (4) bars, restaurants and collective catering; (5) institutional environment; (6) wild foods.
  2. It contributes directly to the future vision (see planning workshop outcome document, page 4).
  3. Facilitates access to healthy and sustainable food for people suffering from food insecurity and/or involves business models for long-term production or to promote access to healthy and sustainable food.
  4. Contributes directly to at least one of the priority themes and objectives (see planning workshop outcome document, pages 8-11).
  5. It contributes to at least two of the transformation criteria of the CLIC system (co-benefits for people, the economy, and the planet; rural-urban links; social inclusion; connectivity with other systems and political priorities).
  6. Recommended: offers the possibility of cooperation between the proposed interventions.

Once the 4 actions have been selected, new meeting dates will be proposed to advance their development and determine the roles and responsibilities of each entity. In addition, a public call will determine the coordinator of each intervention.

FoodCLIC, which started in 2022 and aims to end in 2027, is a project financed by the European Union that is coordinated by the AMB and the Living Lab de Salut d’IrsiCaixa in collaboration with the Institut Metròpoli and the Alison network.
