The Center for Agri-Food Economics and Development has organized the final act of the project ECOPAP (Economia Circular per a l’Optimització dels Plàstics Agroalimentaris del Penedès) to present the results obtained since the beginning of the project, in July 2022.
Under the title ‘Col·laborant per afrontar el repte de la circularitat al sector agroalimentari’, the event will take place next Thursday, February 8 at 11 a.m. and will be online. During the event, multi-stakeholder collaboration between attendees will be encouraged to promote the circular economy within the agri-food sector.
The ECOPAP project is part of the program of Desenvolupament Rural de Catalunya 2014-2022 (PDR) of the Departament d’Acció Climàtica, Alimentació i Agenda Rural, and aims to find solutions that help face the challenge of plastic waste management in the sector. Thus, ECOPAP has identified the needs of four value chains in the Penedès regions (wine, olive, poultry and fishing), as well as several projects with innovations applicable to each of them.
The agenda of the meeting is distributed in such a way that it will combine participatory sessions and presentations focused on: (1) opportunities for collaboration, (2) applicable projects, and (3) the implications of Royal Decree 1055/2022, on packaging and waste. packaging. Thus, representatives from the Barcelona City Council, the BETA technology center, the Agència de Residus de Catalunya, and CREDA will participate in the event.
David Fernández, doctor in Business Administration and Management, works on the project together with Djamel Rahmani, doctor in Economic Analysis and Business Strategy, Saray Ramírez, graduate in Biology, and Manel Cuartielles, graduate in Environmental Sciences.
For Fernández, ECOPAP “has made it possible to implement participatory research methodologies, aimed at helping actors in the chain to jointly identify innovations for a sustainable development challenge such as the circular management of plastics.” Furthermore, this day “allows us to conclude the work of the project, validating and delving into its findings, especially the role of public policies in promoting innovation.”
CREDA colleagues will take advantage of the session to present the conclusions drawn after a year and a half of research and analysis, and will also encourage the participation of attendees in a collaborative dynamic to improve sustainability.
ECOPAP, which began in 2022 and ends in 2024, presented 22 innovations identified throughout the activities developed that are applicable to the plastic waste management challenges of the four value chains studied.
