CREDA Activities: September Update

🗓️ September 03 (1) – Talking about the bioeconomy in Catalonia

Paolo Gnutti participated in the X Jornadas de Análisis Input-Output held in Gijón.

He presented two papers on CREDA studies: “Propuestas para la elaboración de cuentas satélite a nivel regional: el caso de la Bioeconomía en Cataluña” and “El peso de la bieconomía en Cataluña y sus efectos aguas arriba y aguas abajo: una aproximación input-output a su importancia y evolución”.

🗓️ September 03 (2) – Progress in the NOVATERRA project

In an interview within the framework of the European NOVATERRA project, Zein Kallas shared CREDA’s main ambitions within the European initiative.

🗓️ September 04 (1) – III Jornades de Recerca del Parc Natural de l’Alt Pirineu

Manel Cuartielles and Estefano Gonzo attended a series of sessions divided into 10 thematic sessions, which provided more information about the Pyrenees and the lines of research currently being explored, which could contribute, both directly and indirectly.

IRTA representatives shared the OVIHUEC.DAT project, in which CREDA collaborates.

🗓️ September 04 (2) – Analysing Food Waste

Chema Gil participated in an international seminar organized by the Universidad del Alba and the Fundación Brotes, where the challenges of food waste were addressed.

He shared an analysis of figures from the United Nations Environment Programme’s Food Waste Index Report 2024.

🗓️ September 11 – Focusing on health and nutrition

Zein Kallas attended the first session with members of the Stakeholder Advisory Board (STAB) of the HealthyW8 project.

The day, led by Sandra van Hogen-Koster, teacher at the Hogeschool Saxion, covered topics such as positive health, lifestyle and nutrition.

🗓️ September 13 – Attending the 188th EAAE seminar

Omar Guadarrama Fuentes and Tafesse Gezahegn participated in the 188th seminar of the European Association of Agricultural Economists organized by CIHEAM Chania, a day in which researchers shared the progress of their research in the agricultural field.

Guadarrama presented the results of the sustainability indicators used in the LAB4SUPPLY project and in GI initiatives in Catalonia. Gezahegn also presented a model to estimate the economic impact of the drought on Catalan agriculture.

🗓️ September 16 – FoodMAPP Follow-up

Djamel Rahmani travelled to the premises of the Lyfe Institute in Lyon to meet with the project partners.

For two days, participants shared progress made in their tasks and agreed on future research projects.

🗓️ September 26 – Sizing the bioeconomy

Chema Gil and David Fernández attended the 3rd BIT Congress in Lleida to present the results of the bioeconomy sizing project, a work that combines the advantages of Output and Input-Output methodologies shared with the rest of the European Union.

Chema Gil: “With more than 50% of the GVA coming from links with supplier and customer sectors, the bioeconomy in Catalonia is in the European top 10 in terms of driving capacity.”

🗓️ September 29 – Presenting our participation in SPRINT

Tianyu Zhang shared CREDA’s task and objectives during the development of the SPRINT project.

🗓️ September 30 – Raising awareness about food losses and waste

Amèlia Sarroca organized a workshop to celebrate the International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste, where she presented the results of the study to diagnose waste in the bread sector.

Representatives from the entire sector participated in the workshop: flour mills, the baking industry, distributors, frozen dough bakeries and artisan bakeries. In addition, the need to align the laws with some existing barriers to the valorisation of certain products was discussed.
