CREDA Activities: October Update

🗓️ October 04 – Talking about food waste in hospitals

Tianyu Zhang Jin participated in a round table discussion at the XXV Congreso Nacional de Hosteleria Hospitalaria of the AEHH Hostelería Hospitalaria.

He took advantage of the event to talk about food waste in hospitals, using as an example the SWIFTCARE project that we are carrying out with the Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona.

🗓️ October 07 – Visit of Chapingo

Chema Gil, director of CREDA, and Sergio Urioste, Tianyu Zhang and Kenza Goumeida, PhD students, received a visit from faculty staff and students of the Universidad Autónoma de Chapingo.

Chema gave an introduction to CREDA and its work, Kenza presented her work on diets and livestock systems in the pig sector, Sergio shared his study on the registration of new plant varieties and Tianyu Zhang explained what we mean when we talk about food waste.

🗓️ October 10 – Final meeting of the LocalNutLeg project

Adrià Menéndez and Adzran Mustapa attended the final meeting of partners of the LocalNutLeg project to present their research and work within WP5 on the evaluation of consumer satisfaction and acceptance of innovative food products.

The sessions took place at the IRTA facilities in Lleida.

🗓️ October 17 – Organizing a focus group in Asturias

Tianyu Zhang and Djamel Rahmani traveled to Asturias to conduct two focus groups with families within the framework of the SPRINT project.

The aim of the sessions was to discuss the causes and possible solutions to food waste generated in households.

🗓️ October 18 – Participating in the ‘World Food Forum’

Sergio Urioste participated in the forum held at FAO headquarters in Rome as a finalist in the Transformative Research Challenge.

Together with colleagues Tianyu Zhang, Mahdieh Khezri and Yasmine Bedoui, they developed a proposal for the Role of Water in Transforming our Agri-Food Systems award, co-organised by EIT Food. The team received a grant to implement their research.

🗓️ October 22 – Collaborating with the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences

Jianxin Guo, Jichun Zhao and Sufen Sun, part of the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences team, visited CREDA to see the centre first-hand and look for synergies in the tasks to be developed.

🗓️ October 23 (1) – Knowing the farmer’s preferences

Sergio Alejandro organised a session to find out about the preferences of farmers regarding new apple varieties within the framework of the INVITE project.

The objective of the day was to collect demographic information and information on the latest apple production campaigns, through a choice experiment and a hypothetical lottery game.

🗓️ October 23 (2) – SureNexus Updates

Paolo Gnutti participated in the second face-to-face meeting of the SureNexus project, which hosted representatives of the different partner entities in Athens, to present the progress of the Delphi questionnaire being carried out by CREDA.

🗓️ October 25 – Progress in the OVIHUEC.DAT project

Manel Cuartielles visited the Somiedo Lake Valley within the framework of the OVIHUEC.DAT project to share experiences on pasture 4.0.

The meeting of partners was an opportunity to explore technological innovations applied to sustainable land management through communal livestock.

🗓️ October 29 (1) – Organizing a day on bioeconomy

Martin Alba, Paolo Gnutti and Marian Romero organised a workshop on the economic dimensioning of the bioeconomy to share input, input-output and satellite account methodologies.

The event was attended by expert personnel from various local and state entities.

🗓️ October 29 (2) – The GI SMART project begins

Djamel Rahmani and Omar Guadarrama attended the first face-to-face meeting of the GI SMART project at INRAE ​​headquarters in Paris.

During the sessions, partners shared ideas and collaborated to reinforce the value of Geographical Indications (GIs).
