CREDA activities: March update

🗓️ March 01 – HealthyW8 dynamic day

Zein Kallas and Amèlia Sarroca organized a collaborative session within the framework of the European project that fights to reduce overweight and obesity. Both professionals divided the attendees into group tables where they could share and validate the best tools to implement in the named interventions.

The proposals of the participating people took into account socio-demographic and psychological aspects, but also physical activity and dietary patterns, among others.

🗓️ Març 08 – Celebration of Women’s Day

Saray Ramírez, research support technician at CREDA, presented to the Isidre Martí d’Esplugues school, what her career in the world of science has been and how she has experienced it with a gender perspective.

The boys and girls in second grade welcomed Ramírez with a good round of questions.

🗓️ March 10 – Zein Kallas at Canal 21

Zein Kallas, professor of agricultural economics and researcher at CREDA, participated with Canal 21 to talk about the situation of tractor workers and the need to supply ourselves with local products.

🗓️ March 13 – Collaboration with Vall d’Hebron Hospital in the fight against waste

With the help of a team of 10 volunteers, Tianyu Zhang, PhD student at CREDA, has quantified for a whole week the food waste produced in the entire food chain of the hospital and the attached restaurant open to the public.

This count, which classified organic matter according to whether it is ‘usable for human consumption’ or ‘unusable’, is part of the first phase of the development of the doctoral thesis on waste reduction strategies, which Zhang is studying.

🗓️ March 14 – CO-FRESH: Final event of the project

Chema Gil, director of CREDA, attended the final meeting of the European project to share with the rest of the partners the lessons learned over the three and a half years in which the initiative has been developed.

At the day, which was held in Brussels, the achievements and challenges of both the project and the other initiatives of the H2020 program, such as Lowinfood or FOODRUS, were presented.

🗓️ March 18 – We attend the Alimentaria 2024 Fair

Amèlia Sarroca, research support technician at CREDA, spent a whole day at the fair to learn about the new proposals in terms of sustainability in schools and other communities. Aligned with the SWITCHtoHEALTHY European project, in which CREDA participates, these initiatives seek to promote growth in the consumption of seasonal legumes and vegetables in the short circuit.

Sarroca took the opportunity to discover new technologies and proposals that represent a breakthrough in the sector, such as the Proppos project that works to identify food with an artificial intelligence tool and provides solutions for plate controls in hospitals, restaurants, etc.
