CREDA Activities: January update

🗓️ January O3 – Chema Gil participates in a seminar at the Universidad del Bío-Bío

Chema Gil, PhD in Economics and director of CREDA, participated in a seminar on sustainability in crops, given by the Universidad del Bío-Bío, Chile. In the session “Cosechando sostenibilidad: Abordando la sequía en la agricultura con soluciones innovadoras”, representatives of the university, the Instituto de Desarrollo Agropecuario (INDAP) and the Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Tecnología Agraria y Alimentaria (INIA) also participated.

The day brought together several experts with the aim of facilitating the exchange of ideas to contribute to mitigating the effects of the drought in agriculture, mainly due to climate change. Chema explained the current situation in Catalonia.

🗓️ January 09 – Dr. Mario Fernández Zarza visits CREDA

During a new #CREDASeminar, Dr. Mario Fernández Zarza, researcher at Universidad La Salle of México, explained to us how the ForTeRa project works.

This initiative works on the revitalization of several agroecological territories, from a holistic perspective: “Caminando hacia la soberanía alimentaria en México. Fortalecimiento de 7 territorios-red agroecológicos”.

The seminar was run by Omar Guadarrama, Adrià Menéndez i Molist, and Zein Kallas, CREDA colleagues who participate in the LAB4SUPPLY project.

🗓️ January 12 – LOCALNUTLEG: WP5 update meeting

The partners of the European project met to share the progress made over the last year.

Adzran Mustapa, Laura López-Mas and Zein Kallas, who represented CREDA as WP5 leaders, shared the results obtained from the evaluation of consumer satisfaction and acceptance of products made from plants.

🗓️ January 15 – Publication of the RASCS’ final report

The “Risk Assessment Strategies for Contaminants in Seafood (RASCS)” project has reached its end and you can now consult the report resulting from all the research done by a total of 7 partner entities.

Djamel Rahmani, Lourdes Reig, Saray Ramírez, Cristina Poyato and Chema Gil are the CREDA members who have participated in this initiative of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

The project has investigated the assessment of risk situations of pollutants in sea products and the action guidelines to be followed.

🗓️ January 16 and 17 – CREDA attends the initial meeting of a new European project

Djamel Rahmani and Chema Gil travelled to Brussels to attend the kick-off meeting of the BREADCRUMB project.

The European initiative aims to develop solutions to prevent and reduce food waste throughout the value chain, focusing mainly on 5 basic consumer products: fruit and vegetables, meat, eggs, cereals, and fish.

🗓️ January 24 and 25 – Celebrating the annual meeting of the SWITCHtoHEALTHY project

The CREDA team that participates in the European initiative organized two conferences to share the progress and research made throughout the first year and a half of the project’s research at the Escola d’Enginyeria Agroalimentària i de Biosistemes de Barcelona (EEABB) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC)

The event ended with a global meeting where the issues and doubts that arose throughout the interventions were discussed, with the aim of establishing some bases and points to be fulfilled for the next meeting.

The SWITCHtoHEALTHY initiative aims to develop tools and methodologies to promote the consumption of the Mediterranean diet in family homes.
