CREDA activities: February update

🗓️ February 07 – Chema Gil attends a conference in Australia

Chema Gil, PhD in Economics and director of CREDA, participated in a session of the Australasian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society as a guest of the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE). The session “Economic experiments supporting public policies towards the provision of Ecosystem Services by the agri-food sector” was carried out by Gil, together with two colleagues from the sector, Francisco Alcón and Anastasio J. Villanueva.

The conference brought together various experts with the aim of exploring the challenges facing the region, such as biosafety, climate change, environmental degradation, energy system transitions and food security.

🗓️ February 08 (1) – Zein Kallas: The effects of agricultural mobilizations

Zein Kallas, professor of agricultural economics and researcher at CREDA, participated in the ‘La Brúixola’ program on Onda Cero to comment on the effects of the mobilizations that paralysed the agricultural sector at the beginning of the month.

Kallas assured that these displacements will have an impact on the chain and proposed the intervention of the administrations to provide the sector with the necessary requirements.

🗓️ 08 de febrero (2) – Presentation of the results of the ECOPAP project

A series of agents interested in the plastics sector participated in the session organized by CREDA to present the results and conclusions obtained after a year of project.

David Fernández, Saray Ramírez and Manel Cuartielles led a virtual conference focused on the search for solutions for the management of plastic waste in a circular economy manner. The session was attended by representatives of the Ajuntament de Barcelona, the BETA Technology Center and the Agència de Residus de Catalunya.

🗓️ February 12 – International Day of Women and Girls in Science

For the second consecutive year, CREDA celebrates a day dedicated to promoting gender equality in education and occupation in science and technology. The event took place in front of the centre’s workers and was divided into four sessions:

  • Cristina Poyato presented the results and objectives achieved over recent years.
  • Aina Troncoso (UPC) led an awareness session on gender roles and stereotypes.
  • Lanjiao Wen explained his research work on the functioning of the traded land market.
  • Mahdieh Khezri Nejad Gharaei shared the situation of women in the investigation in Iran.

🗓️ February 27 – Closing ceremony of the UPC-Mercabarna Chair

Djamel Rahmani and Chema Gil attended the final event of the project to present the results of the diagnosis carried out over the last three years together with Mercabarna.

The event also shared the different effects that the new rules and regulations may have on the different agents in the sector.
