The Departament d’Acció Climàtica, Alimentació i Agenda Rural has enabled a tool that allows professionals in the poultry sector to calculate the real cost of production with the aim of being able to sell above the cost price, complying with the Food Chain Law. A work carried out jointly with the Unió de pagesos and the Federació Avícola Catalana.
The tool is a proposal that has been worked on for a year and is inspired by the model that the Department developed for the dairy cattle sector on the Telematic Livestock Management (GTR) platform.
According to the general director of Empreses Agroalimentàrias, Qualitat i Gastronomia, Joan Gòdia, “the tool was born with the desire to promote a more equitable distribution along the chain and allows the sector to have more credibility and strength when negotiating prices and optimize production profits“. In addition, “it is a very intuitive and easy-to-use tool.”
The action promoted by the Department is part of Catalonia’s Food Strategy and aims to make a fairer, more equitable and cohesive food system between all agents of the food chain.
