The Center for Agrofood Economics and Development (CREDA) has participated in the XVI Congress of Agrifood Economicsof the Spanish Association of Agrifood Economics (AEEA). On September 6, 7 and 8, the most important Spanish event dedicated to academic and scientific debate on the problems of the agrifood economy, brought together more than 300 experts in the sector in Zaragoza.
This year’s title ‘Strategies for agri-food systems in the face of global challenges’ has focused on the need to establish methods that make the agri-food system a strong procedure capable of addressing political and natural challenges.
Throughout the conference, 16 CREDA colleagues, including doctoral candidates, research support technicians and researchers, presented research papers that they have carried out over the last year. Thus, the team of the Catalan center has participated in a total of 20 presentations that have dealt with several topics, from the analysis of the levels of digital maturity in food chains, to the willingness to pay of consumers for different products.
The congress has been organized by a group of academic institutions based in Zaragoza: CIHEAM Zaragoza, the Center for Agro-alimentary Research and Technology of Aragon (CITA Aragon), the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Zaragoza and the University Institute of Mixed Agrifood Research of Aragon – IA2 (CITA-University of Zaragoza)
Recognition to papers
During the last day, the AEEA has recognized the work of the young researchers with the delivery of 6 second prizes corresponding to the different areas of exploration: ‘Environment, natural resources, bioeconomy/circular economy and climate change’, ‘Agrarian, agroenvironmental, food and international trade policies’, ‘Production, management and organization of the company’, ‘Agri-food system, value chains and associations’, ‘Food, consumption and marketing’ and ‘Rural and territorial development’.
Noah Larvoe, PhD candidate of the CREDA, has received the award for best young researcher in the thematic area of ‘Agricultural, agroenvironmental, food and international trade policies’ for his work ‘Willingness to pay for pesticides’ reduction in Mediterranean olive groves: reference Price-dependent contingent valuation method’.
